At Peninsula Pet Clinic, Dr. Van Volkenburgh has created a transparent billing process unique to this area. This was done to make the process simple and streamlined so we are able to focus on what matters most – delivering the best veterinary medicine to your pet.
Dr. Van Volkenburgh differs from many in her field because when it comes to planning the best treatment for your pet, she doesn't operate on guesswork. In a typical veterinary office, when you bring your pet in for an emergency, the doctor will oftentimes make a guess as to what the issue is and offer up an estimate of what it may cost to resolve without doing any diagnostic tests. This makes the process unclear and confusing. It also leaves the pet owner open to receiving surprise bills. This is what makes Peninsula Pet Clinic so different.
When you bring your pet in for an emergency, one of the first things that will be done are diagnostic tests. Dr. Van Volkenburgh doesn't believe in “guessing”. It is vital to get the needed tests done on your pet to locate the cause of the trouble. So, when your pet is brought into the clinic, our staff will listen to what the issue or concern is and perform an initial examination of the pet to determine what diagnostics are needed to find the exact cause of the trouble. This may include a simple x-ray, blood work, a CT scan or an ultrasound.
When the clinical team has determined what diagnostics will need to be performed, you will be given an estimate of the cost for these diagnostics and have the option to accept or decline. If you decline, we will have you sign an acknowledgement that you are declining what we feel your pet needs based on our years of experience in handling veterinary emergencies. If you accept the diagnostic plan and fees, our team will get started on the diagnostics to determine what the precise issue is with your pet.
Once the diagnostics have been performed and we have isolated the issue, we will then provide a prognosis based on the diagnostic results. If we find that the situation is treatable, we will lay out a treatment plan to address the exact difficulty your pet is having and present this to you with the costs clearly laid out on the treatment plan. Our staff will go over this with you, address any questions or concerns you may have and assist you with making any needed financial arrangements. At this point, you will have the option to accept or decline treatment. Once you have accepted the treatment plan with pricing clearly laid out, our team will go to work assisting your pet with the highest quality of veterinary medicine. However, if we find that the situation is not likely to improve based on the diagnostic test results or that the prognosis is terminal, we will explain this as well and go over the options available.
This process keeps the owner informed as to what is occurring with their pet at each step of the way and prevents surprise billing issues.
